Can you replace the fabric in existing roller blinds – and which fabric works best for sunny offices?
In most cases, it is perfectly possible to replace only the fabric in existing roller blinds, as long as the cassette and mechanism are in good condition. This is a cost-effective and sustainable way to improve light comfort without replacing the entire blind.
When blackout blinds feel too dark
Many offices use blackout roller blinds that block out all daylight. This often makes the room feel dark and enclosed, reducing the natural window feeling.
If your goal is instead to:
- reduce glare from direct sunlight
- work comfortably at computer screens
- maintain daylight and a sense of openness
- avoid reflecting sunlight onto nearby buildings
… there are better fabric options than full blackout materials.
Recommended fabric types for office environments
Light-filtering fabric (DO / Dimout)
Light-filtering fabrics are ideal when you want to soften sunlight without fully darkening the room. They create a pleasant indoor light and are very popular in office environments.
The color choice affects light transmission:
Lighter colors allow more daylight to pass through, while darker shades reduce light more effectively – even within the same fabric quality.
Neutral grey tones are often preferred in offices.

Screen fabrics – reduce glare while keeping the view
Screen fabrics are woven materials with very small openings that:
- reduce sunlight and heat
- minimize screen glare
- allow partial outward visibility
- create low external reflection
Screen fabrics are available in several openness levels, determining how much light and visibility is allowed. They are especially suitable for south-facing offices.

How does fabric replacement work in practice?
We supply cut fabric pieces in the required width. The fabrics are cut from larger rolls (e.g. 2000, 2500 or 3000 mm wide), similar to purchasing fabric from a textile store.
You can order the correct width for your cassette and a generous height, then trim the fabric to the exact required length during installation.
Can I order fabric samples before purchasing?
Yes – and we strongly recommend it. Fabric samples allow you to compare colors and materials in your own lighting conditions and ensure the chosen fabric works well with screens and workspaces.
